Haven't you heard? "Change you can believe in" is SO 2008!

Ahhh... run for the hills!  The Democratic Party is going up in flames!!

At least that's the latest takeaway from the media these days.  Oh, what's that?  You hadn't heard?  Yeah, it's not cool to be into Obama and change anymore.  No, no, no, that went out last February after he failed to employ every American, marry every gay American, end every war and eliminate world hunger in his first month in office.  Yeah, yeah, we jumped off that bandwagon quickly.

Now, following the latest election, look at how cool it is to be a Republican again!  What's that?  You didn't know there was an election this week?  Well, there was.  That's right, exactly one year after the most historic election in your lifetime, there was actually another election in this country.  It was one of those odd-year elections with only a handful of local races that most people in the country don't even realize is going on.  But guess what happened?  That's right, the Republicans scored HUGE victories, thus signaling the inevitable downfall of liberal politics, the Democratic Party and yep, you guessed it, President Obama.

You see, the latest media spin was that Republicans "won back" a big percentage of the Independents who broke for Obama last fall.  Now this couldn't be a case of cherry picking stats to create a compelling storyline that's not really there, could it?  Nah, the media would never dream of such a tactic, would they?

I mean, it wouldn't make any sense to include the fact that the number of Americans who self-identify as Republicans is currently at a historic low (around 20%), would it?  Of course not!  We're talking about Independents, not Republicans.  These are long-time, die-hard Independents we're talking about.  It's not like there are Republicans who were dissatisfied with certain leaders in their party or the direction of it, and have recently declared themselves "Independent" during an all-time low point in the public image of the GOP.  That would just be ridiculous.  The fact that there are more "former Republicans" identifying as Indys than ever before would have nothing to do with a skewed percentage of Indys breaking for conservative candidates in an off-year election, would it?  Nah, don't be silly.  Numbers are numbers and you just can't deny the fact that the Democratic base is dissolving, it's cool to be conservative and every Independent hates Obama.  (btw, did you see the video mashup of Michael Steele doing the Digital Underground's 'Humpty Dance?'  Now THAT is Kewl!)

What is the "Health Care Plan?"

I could ramble on here about "health care reform" as the topic du jour and pretend to know all the grisly details.  But the fact is, I'd be willing to bet that most Americans don't really know what it means.  We need a "health care reform for dummies" guide.  So what did I do?  I decided to google "health care reform for dummies" and see what came up.  (hey, I'm here to help)  Sure enough, here you go:

And here's another one from the Washington Post that seems really official with fancy graphs and stuff:

But that one may be a little too "talky" for you.  I know, you're already bored before you even click.

What you want to know is, "Am I going to get free health insurance from the government?"  Isn't that really the question that this all boils down to?

It's the same irreverent goop from me, just a little more focused. Do I know what I'm talking about? Not usually. Do I grab a soundbite or headline and run with it, ignoring facts and research to back up my opinions? Sure, maybe. But will you enjoy it? Yes. Yes you will.
